Excerpt
“Then what is the point?” Fenella was exasperated. “It is none of your business who I speak to and with whom I associate.”
“Oh, yes it is!” Devlin snapped. “I am your employer.”
“No, you are not.” Fenella’s gaze was unflinching. “Her Grace is my employer and you have no right to criticize what I do when I am not on duty. You are not the judge of my conduct.”
“Hear me, Madam,” said Devlin, a dangerous note creeping into his voice. He tightened his lips. “I am the only judge of the conduct of those who reside under my roof. Sir Marcus Solesby is a known seducer of young women.”
Memories flooded into Fenella’s mind of how Devlin’s presence played daily havoc with her. The feeling of his lips against hers plagued her constantly. Worst of all was reliving the night when he had slid his hand under her nightdress and fondled her body—without considering the consequences. Yes, she had failed to stop him until liberties were taken and his unbridled lust and her blossoming sensuality exposed. She had stopped them both in the end.
Not him. He should never have begun this dangerous game and now he had the effrontery to monitor her every move and decide with whom she should associate?
“Oh, really? And what do you call yourself then?” Fenella’s whole body shook with suppressed fury.
Her barb hit home. Devlin went white with shock and rage—shock at hearing his conduct described as that of a roué and anger that this chit of a girl whom he could not control was daring to defy him in his own home.
“I forbid you to speak to that man!”
“Forbid? Fiddlesticks!” Fenella tossed her head.
“You are the most stubborn, insubordinate and aggravating female it has been my misfortune to meet.”
“And you are the most ill-mannered, domineering, selfish brute it has been my misfortune to meet.” Fenella stamped her foot, her cheeks red with rage. A strength she did not know she possessed rose from within; strength and a fierce sense of independence. She would not be bullied by this man, not after all that had happened between them. She saw in Devlin’s expression his struggle with some kind of gigantic force, the towering emotions that consumed him.
Is it rage? she wondered, almost faltering in her decision to stand firm. Have I gone too far?
Perhaps her upbringing had failed her in the end: one certainly did not defy a member of the nobility. As Devlin opened his mouth; Fenella decided that discretion was possibly the better part of valor. She turned on her heel and flung open the library door to find an astonished Freddie standing in front of her, his hand raised.
“I was about to knock,” he stammered.
“Don’t bother.” Fenella ground the word through gritted teeth. “We’re quite finished here.”

Another great novel by this author! Just by reading previous and also this book your able to see that the author does her research and is very passionate about her writing. While in the beginning she introduced to us the characters, included the devil himself otherwise known as Devlin and also Fenella, this book will keep you wanting to read more. Fenella has secrets to keep from the beginning; however, when she answers the ad in a newspaper for a companion, she is in for a surprise when everywhere she turns she meets Devlin. Devlin doesn’t trust anyone and especially outsiders who answers ads in the newspaper. Let me tell you when these two start to go at each other sparks fly and I am not just talking about the attraction kind either. However, when you throw in his mistress into the factor and you definitely have one great read. Read the book to find out what you will discover in this treasure box of a book. The book was very entertaining and romantic!

Edgar sat next to her, his face at a slight angle so that anyone observing them could not see his expression.
“What do you want?” she murmured though stiff lips.
Edgar snorted. “Want? I want what’s due to me, that’s what I want.”
Roxanne avoided looking directly at him. She knew his hypnotic stare would wear her down again. She watched the happy throng of guests twirling around the room, laughing and enjoying themselves. A terrible sense of suffocation began to overwhelm her. Fighting to retain her self-control, Roxanne unfurled her fan and waved it in front of her face. The regular movement helped calm her and provided a flimsy shield against Edgar’s dreadful gaze.
“I have no money, if that’s what you’re looking for,” she said with calm hauteur.
Another derisive snort. “D’ye expect me to believe that? What with you engaged to the wealthy young Earl of Pennington?”
“He is not wealthy.”
Edgar sniggered as he leered at her in triumph. He lifted her hand and pressed his mouth on the inside of her wrist. Roxanne squirmed at the feel of those loose wet lips against her skin. She snatched her hand from his grasp.
“Not yet, me darlin’, not yet. I hear he’ll be inheriting soon, once he’s married. Something about an old uncle or aunt?”
“His great-uncle Oswald,” Roxanne said, without thinking.
Edgar’s reaction made her wish she’d bitten her tongue instead.
“So you do know there’s money coming then?”
Roxanne tossed her head, affecting nonchalance. “The whole of London knows he had a wealthy old relative. His great-uncle wanted to see him married.”
Edgar leaned closer. The smell of stale sweat mixed with cheap cologne wafted towards her. She wrinkled her nose. Julian always smelled so clean, so masculine.
He sat back, an angry look in his eyes.
“Don’t put on airs and graces with me. You were grateful enough to have me, weren’t you? When you thought you’d be all alone in the world. Pity you didn’t stay long enough to let me show you what you’ve been missing.”
Roxanne felt as if she could explode with rage as she turned to face him. “Let me explain something to you, Mr. Doyle.”
Her voice was low and hard, without a shred of fear. Her eyes blazed an intense green. Anger had burned away all her previous terrors. Edgar recoiled in his seat just a fraction. It was enough to tell Roxanne that he was taken aback by her sudden courage.
“I despise you in every possible way. I knew from the start you were not my father’s cousin. You are a fraud. You intimidated my father into thinking marriage with you would protect me in society. Then you forced me into marrying you and tried to rape me. But I won’t have it, Edgar Doyle, I won’t stand for it.”
Edgar narrowed his eyes. His lips pinched in anger.
“Now you look here, my girl,” he blustered.
“No, you look here,” Roxanne retorted. “How dare you think you can bully me in the Duke of Silverton’s house? Who do you think you are?”
She waved a hand at the crowd of guests. “This is the cream of London society. You are nothing but a fraud, a poseur and a charlatan.”
Edgar curled his lip as he grasped her wrist, squeezing hard.
“Don’t forget something, me darlin’. You and me—we’re married. So if you get hitched to your high and mighty Earl of Pennington, won’t he get a nasty shock when it comes out his new bride is already wed.”

Excerpt-
As she made her way back to her room, there was a shadowy figure standing in the passage. Her candle cast a faint glow in the gloom, so she could not see clearly until she came closer where a man leaned against the wall. She hurried up to him. It could only be…
“Your—I mean, Cousin Vernon,” she whispered. “Is anything the matter?”
He looked dazed, as if he had just woken up, and he wore his brocade dressing gown and slippers. He pressed a hand to his forehead.
“Have you been sleepwalking?” she whispered.
He smiled a lazy, drowsy smile she had never seen before. “Oh, Helena, my love, it seems as if I have been sleepwalking.”
His words startled her. Had he said “my love?”
She took him by the elbow and tried to steer him in the direction of his room. What would people think if they knew he wandered around the place half-naked? Some might say that, as the owner of the title and the property, the Duke of Rotherham could walk around Rotherham Park, any time of day, dressed or undressed.
“Helena, I have been blind,” he said in a loud voice.
“Shhh. Yes, I’m sure you have,” she whispered, trying to speed up their pace.
“No, I mean it. I never saw you before, and once I had, I tried to forget you. But it’s impossible. You changed my life. I want you and I need you so very much, my darling.”
Helena was even more confused. Rotherham must be rambling. Possibly, he had consumed too much wine and his jumbled thoughts of Emily were rising to the surface of a brain fuddled with alcohol.
“What time is it?” he asked.
“Oh, it’s late, very late,” she whispered. “Tine for you to get back to bed.”
He stopped. “Is it too late?”
Helena placed the candlestick down on a small decorative table. “Too late for what?”
He smiled in a way that made her giddy, and he clasped her face in both hands. His robe fell open. Helena glanced down, and then quickly away, face flaming. He was naked under the robe. Where he had been?
“Is it too late for us?” He leaned closer, until their lips almost touched.
“I…I don’t know what you mean,” she said, trying to ease out of his grasp.
“I know what I mean,” he said firmly. “This is what I mean.”

“Oh!” Rage surged in her breast as she sat up in the chaise lounge. It was impossible to express indignation while lying supine. The effrontery, the gall of the man. She raised her voice. “So now I am stupid because I deliberately strained my ankle?”
His voice became louder as well. “I did not say that—”
“But you meant it,” Diana said through clenched teeth.
“How dare you just announce that we are engaged because of some antiquated idea of saving my virtue? I don’t need you to protect my reputation.”
His jaw dropped. “Oh, really? I suppose you are thinking along the same lines as when you abandoned me just a day before our wedding. You did not do your reputation any good then.”
“It was two days,” she retorted. “Does it matter how many days it was?”
This time his voice was quiet. “It amounts to the same thing.”
Humiliation stung her. “So now you are calling me a jilt?”
The chair scraped on the floor as he stood. “I had no need to do so. The whole of London did it for me.” Then he strode to the door.
Diana’s breath caught in her throat. Shame burned her from head to toe. “You are the most…horrible, cruel, callous, nasty, ill-mannered man I have ever had the misfortune to meet.” She pulled off the ring and clenched her fist, ready to throw it in his face. “I will not be engaged to you. I will not marry you.”
In two strides, he was by her side, and gripping her hand. His fingers tightened painfully on hers. He knelt and stared right at her with a grim, unforgiving expression. “You will remain engaged to me, Miss Dashwood, and for as long as I choose. Do not trifle with public opinion, my dear, or you will be sadly the loser. I tried to protect you and you have flung my best efforts in my face. Have you thought about my reputation? Or that of my aunt and uncle, and your mother, who would also be embarrassed by your petulant behaviour? Have you given any thought to anyone else but yourself in this fiasco?”
She drew in a trembling breath. “No,” she said in a low voice. She dropped her gaze, fuming that he was treating her like a naughty child.
“I will not force you to marry me. I am not such an ogre and I do not want to punish you for what you did. But cooperating with me in this regard will be to your benefit.” He put one hand under her chin and tilted her face upward. “Will you cooperate?” His face was so close to hers. His eyes were like the sky after rain, his mouth so firm…he bent his head closer. Diana thought she might faint. The most ridiculous feeling of dizziness overcame her.

Author Interview
Thank you for taking the time for the interview. Please answer the following questions; if there are a couple you want to reword or don’t answer because too much for general public just delete it. 😀

 1.  Did you always wanted to be a writer? If not what did you want to be?

I entertained my younger siblings with wonderful stories when I was younger, but serious writing only came later. I studied     in London and Paris for a stage career, but just drifted into publishing, then into writing.

2. When did you first consider yourself a “writer”?

When my first book was published.

3. How long did it take to get your first book published?

It was incredibly easy. I sent my manuscript to a romance publisher I read about in a writing newsletter. They loved it; then said they wanted more books. So more books it was!

4. Do you do another job except for writing and can you tell us more about it?

I do all writing-related work like teaching novel writing, proof reading book reviews for a big book review site in the USA, reviewing books, blogging, writing…

5. What is the name of your latest book, and if you had to summarize it in less than 20 words what would you say?

My latest book is The Reluctant Bridegroom. “The Earl of Wenham has no intention of marrying the woman his father chose for him.”

6. As a self-publisher, do you have any plans to submit to a publish company? It is my understanding some authors prefer to stay as a self publish author because of flexibility.

MUSA Publishing is my (traditional) publisher. They do a variety of books. They are pretty flexible and they a lot of marketing for their authors, but of course, no matter how one gets published, the amount of legwork in getting the word out there is the same.

7. How long does it usually take you to write a book, from the original idea to finishing writing it?

I find practice makes perfect. My first book took a year to write; the second took three months. I did NaNoWriMo in 2012 and got a book out in a month. But I prefer three months.

8. What can we expect from you in the future? i.e. More books of the same genre? Books of a different genre?

I am thinking about YA paranormal fantasy, but only thinking about it right now.

9. What made you decide to write that genre of book?

I wrote them for my mother. She adored Regency and historical romance and kept saying she wanted to read something new. So, I wrote my first romance for her and, since she passed away, I have dedicated all my books to her memory.

10. Do you have a certain routine you have for writing? (ex. write better at nights, with music, etc)

I do all kinds of ‘stuff’ in the morning, including blogging, editing book reviews etc, and then try to get stuck into my on writing in the afternoon. Of course, there are many days when life just gets in the way and my plans all fall apart.

11. Do you choose a title first, or write the book then choose the title? How do come up with the titles?

I think of a title and then the story materializes.

12. Are there any hidden messages or morals contained in your books?

I think basically one should be honorable about everything, including love. Don’t cheat, don’t wreck someone’s happiness, don’t have unrealistic expectations. Do your best, and love as much as you can. “Unto thine own self be true”—Shakespeare.

13. Your favorite food is?

Seafood. Ice-cream. Chocolate.

14. Your favorite singer/group is?

I listen to such a wide variety. I kind of have favourites for a while and move onto something else. I love movie soundtracks (Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean).

15. Your favorite Author is?

Again, I have favourites for a while. I recently bought and read all the Terry Pratchett books.

16. When you aren’t writing what do you do to relax and have fun?

There is something readers should know about being a writer: it is like having permanent homework. When you aren’t writing you’re feeling guilty that you should be writing or else you’re thinking about writing. When not writing, I try to relax with walking the (always keen) dogs, movies, theatre, travel (when I can afford it), meeting up with friends, and (of course) reading!

author

clip_image006Patricia D. Eddy has been a writer all of her life. She used to sit at her parents’ kitchen counter at an Apple IIe typing out short stories. She even wrote a few on their old typewriter. But it wasn’t until NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) in 2011 that she ever came close to finishing a story she started.

Once that dam broke, the flood waters never receded. Patricia sits down to write every evening after dinner and quite often sees midnight come and go before she heads to bed. She doesn’t sleep much. But she wouldn’t have it any other way.

In her spare (HA!) time she runs, bikes, swims, yogas, pilates-es, reads, and is terribly addicted to Doctor Who and Sherlock. Apparently she has a thing for quirky British men.

Back Cover Text:
The Jack Savage Trilogy, from author T.H. Dillon, is his debut trilogy chronicling the journey of a young man, Jack Savage, as he struggles to accept responsibility for his actions with past love, accept the truth about a present love, and fix himself for the sake of any future love.

In Captive No More, Jack is confronted with the accountability he faces for some horrendous decisions he made with two past loves. To make matters worse….Jack has no memory of the tragic events as they unfolded.   Now, facing the threat of life in prison, Jack is relegated to a mental health facility to be evaluated before he can stand trial. Distraught by his lack of memories surrounding “the event”, Jack is pressed to keep a daily journal in hopes that it might jog his memory…..and help to solidify the impending case against him.

When an unexpected encounter inside threatens to rip his heart out all over again, Jack must decide if he will own up to his crimes…or continue running from his own personal demons.

Synopsis: Jack Savage was not raised to be the sort of man that would want to hurt people. In fact, he was raised to be quite the opposite. But when he finally ventured out into the world as an adult, he began to experience just how truly cold and cruel the world could be. What should have been a fairly normal existence as an adult, began to decay into one of a dysfunctional nature. And it all began to unravel for Jack because of a love he never should have pursued.

Fast-forward several years and Jack finds himself waking up strapped to a bed on the 13th floor in a local institution named Effingham. With no memory of how he arrived at Effingham, or why there is a fair amount of blood on his clothes, he struggles to come to gripes with the reality that he has been committed to the psych ward for evaluation.

Along the way, Jack is told to begin a journal in which he should record his thoughts. The hope is that his daily entries will at some point jog his memory about the actions that led to his arrival on the secretive 13th floor at Effingham. But before he can recall those horrendous actions, a chance encounter with a female resident has Jack thrust into an entirely new romance in his heart.

In time, Jack’s memories slowly start to return to him. But as the memories are slow to return, his heart is quick to be given away to the distraught beauty whom he shares a perpetual emotional suffering with. Jack’s desire to be her “Knight in shining armor” may not mesh with her plans for them though. As he finally starts to receive glimpses of his breaking point, Jack faces the even harsher reality that he may never get the chance he so desperately wants to be happy.

When it becomes apparent Jack must choose between facing up to his actions, or risking everything for love once more…..Jack is unsure of who, or what, to trust. Most of all, he questions whether or not he can trust himself and the feelings he has for a woman yet again.

With vicious memories haunting him, and life inside of a psych ward starting to become the new reality he never wanted, Jack must become that part of him that he hates if he is to survive the 13th floor of Effingham. No one is safe in the mind of Jack Savage. And he’ll do whatever it takes to make things right in his mind.

Only Jack knows what Jack is capable of…

**Author’s note: Although Captive No More is the first book in an exciting trilogy, it is also intended to serve as a stand-alone story. As such, it is the intent of the author not to incorporate the common “cliff-hanger ending” technique. All of the titles in The Jack Savage Trilogy will seek to follow this mantra.**

excerpt 2

I’m not sure how it happens, but the next thing I’m aware of is the faintly groggy feeling you get when you’ve been woken from sleep quickly. A glance at the clock tells me that forty minutes have gone by, yet the room is still silent, with no noise to rouse me from what had obviously been a deep sleep. I stand up and meet my own eyes in the mirror above the fire place. I’m staring at myself in a dazed kind of way, when I realise that mine is not the only figure reflected in its polished surface.

I suppose it must have been the second time he walked through this room and the first time he didn’t notice me curled up in the depths of the large arm chair. He seems quite as shocked as I am to find he’s not alone.

A full second elapses before I utter a strangled scream and leg it through the door and into the passage way. The first thing I come across is another camouflaged figure and my panic ratchets up a notch. I think of the children, who in about fifteen minute’s time, will joyfully be free of the shackles of their lessons.

The two soldiers are behind me, so only way to go is up the stairs. The knowledge that I am leading the intruders towards the children, rings in my head. With the sound of pursuit hideously loud in the stairwell, coherent thought is proving difficult. I’m half way up the forth flight when I hear Dec’s jubilant voice proclaiming himself the winner of some unseen race.

“Dec, run!” My voice cracks and my throat, already sore, tightens.

Dec’s voice exclaiming above my head is cut short as he sees my pursuers. I hear the door onto the stairwell open and close above me and a moment later something hit the floor behind me with a dull thud. A cheer reverberates around the walls.

Dec, bless him, hadn’t run away when I told him to, instead he’d brought a large book from the school room above and hurled it at one of my attackers. As that soldier was at this very moment out cold on the steps, I guess his aim must have been pretty accurate.

The last of the men is felled by some sort of encyclopaedia, this time lobbed by Roydon. I reach the landing they are standing on, completely out of breath. Roydon and Dec seize a hand each and drag me after Ricky who is holding Tarri in his arms and has Carris’s hand tucked in his.

From the direction in which they are going, I think their destination is Ralph’s house. But we keep running into the strangers that have breached the building and our efforts bring us almost full circle. We come to a standstill in one of the rooms with a connecting door and pause breathlessly.

“Who are they?” whispers Roydon.

“I don’t know, but they have some pretty neat kit,” answers Ricky. He relinquishes Tarri into Carris’s arms and places an ear to the door. “Ssh — someone’s coming!”

Ricky steps back a little from the door and we all wait expectantly. Sure enough it begins to open, Ricky waits until it is almost half way before he kicks it shut with all his might. We turn and run though the connecting door in to the room on the other side and out on to the corridor beyond. We are tantalisingly close to Ralph’s house.

How it happens I hardly know, but as Dec passes the open door of the school room, he is dragged kicking and screaming through the door by unseen hands. I scream and pull as hard as I can on the handle, but it won’t move. I realise they must have locked it behind them. Ralph’s door is just a little further on and I grab Ricky’s arm.

“Ricky, take the children to Ralph and stay there.”

“But…”

I don’t know what he had been going to say, but he stops abruptly and nods.

As I turn and run down the hallway I hear them banging on the Clark’s door.

There is no sign of Dec when I enter the school room, but from the knocked over chairs it is obvious that there has been some struggling. I run through the next two rooms desperately and hear, in the distance, Dec’s voice raised in protest. I burst into the corridor to find him struggling madly with one of the camouflaged soldiers. Picking up a stool from the room I have just come through, I use it to hit the man around the head. He sinks to the floor moaning and I taking Dec’s hand. We run down the passage, around the corner and up the steps, slap bang into more of the soldiers.

Instinctively I push Dec behind me, below their visors I see derision in the soldier’s faces and when they step forwards, they pull us apart easily. Trying to tear away from the vice like grip on my arm, I pull my knee up into the soldier’s stomach. His smirk changes quickly to a snarl of pain and my struggles become more desperate. I manage to free an arm long enough to punch him in the face. I must admit to a feeling of gratification as blood begins to trickle from his nose.

There is blinding pain as his fist connects with my face, slapping it sharply sideways and causing me to lurch backwards. I fall to the floor and it’s only Dec screaming my name that brings me groggily to my feet. I am rewarded by a merciless grip on my arm, forcing it behind me and well up my back as the soldier drives me heavily into the wall. I slip to the floor weakly, again hearing Dec’s voice calling to me. The sound grows gradually fainter, until my eyes close and I hear nothing.

TOUR-BOOKSYNOPSIS

Life isn’t turning out the way Deeta thought it would. With the Lewises defeated and peace between the tribes, she’d believed that the dark times were in the past.

However, troubles between the tribe continue and the Andak council has selected Tom as ambassador and chief spokesmen to the other tribes.

Deeta knows that there is still much resentment against the Andak, that Tom is in danger every time he leaves the safety of Andak city.

Struggling with her own her own complicated feelings against the tribe that she is now a part of, Deeta tries to ignore the changing attitudes growing within her.

Then Tom is betrayed and with the whole City thrown in to great danger, Deeta finds that reality can’t be ignored forever…

excerpt 2

The keys jangle in the lock and the soldier pulls the door open, his grin displaying gaps where his two front teeth should have been.

“Well come on, stop hiding in the shadows, no need to be scared of me.”

Tom doesn’t answer him but walks past him and in to the room beyond. Presented with Tom’s back the soldier seems to lose what little sense he has, he launches himself at Tom. Tom twists away from him, catching his collar as he passes and ramming him in to the opposite wall.

A dull crack fills the room as the soldier’s head connects with stone work, he collapses, sinking to his knees and groaning. With a sharp expletive, the second soldier comes at Tom slowly, very cautiously.

They circle each other measuringly, looking for weaknesses, for any opening. This soldier is younger than the first, not so beefy, but still strong. He holds back, studying Tom even as Tom studies him.

He’s better trained, Tom realises, not the mindless thug that usually passed for a Lewis soldier. This man had been taught caution, to think three moves ahead of his opponent. This man was dangerous, but he used his brain, so maybe there was a chance that he could be reasoned with.

“We don’t have to do this.” Tom holds his hands up, palms outward. “I’ll go back into my cell and we can forget this happened.”

The soldier smiles menacingly.

“You’d love that, wouldn’t you; to get your own way here, just like you do in the City.”

His left hand falls to his waist and he pulls free a six inch long blade. One edge is curved down into a point, the other carved into jagged notches that gleam in the artificial light. Tom’s face loses all expression, his hands curl into fists and he raises them slightly.

“You shouldn’t have done that.”

“What’s wrong?” spits the soldier tauntingly. “Are you scared?”

Tom’s eyes never waver from the face, filled with fury, before him.

“You fight with fists the worst you’re going to get is some bruises, maybe a few broken bones, but you had to go and pull and knife. One of us is going to end this bleeding.” Tom’s voice drops, his tone blank. “It won’t be me.”

The soldier laughs, an angry, mocking sound.

“Arrogant son of a…”

Before the soldier can say another word, Tom’s fist crashes into his mouth silencing him abruptly. He staggers back, eyes dilated in shock.

“If you want to make it out of this fight alive, I suggest you leave my mother out of this.”

“You crazy bas…”

Tom’s eyes snap coldly.

“I mean it; you’ll leave my mother out of this if you want to continue breathing.”

With a quick thrust, the soldier slashes his knife through the air. Tom jerks back and pivots, catching hold of his knife arm. They sway together dangerously, crashing into chairs and the table.

It isn’t a pretty fight, there’s no time to do anything but react, and more than once Tom finds himself deflecting the blade at the last possible second. They struggle together a little longer, beginning to pant as their exertion slows them down a little.

Tom reflects grimly that if he wasn’t being so careful about hurting the guy, he would have finished him already. He couldn’t cause the brute too much damage, it would only mean more trouble in the long run, more of these pointless, posturing fights.

Tom knew if he gave in to his desire to have it over and done with quickly, it would become a point of honour, and the rest of the soldiers would consider it their duty to grind the prisoner into the ground. That was the last think he needed, he had enough to worry about without taking gladiatorial events in to account.

Ned’s voice interrupted his thoughts, calling out a frantic warning and Tom turned just in time to see the first solder, recovered from his close inspection of the wall, baring down on him with a chair levelled at his head.

Tom has no time to avoid the blow, but raises his arm slightly to deflect it from his head to his right shoulder. The force sends him reeling backward, clutching at his arm. The first soldier stands, the chair now a splintered wreck in his hands, and glares Ned.

“You warned him.” His voice is filled with shock.

Ned’s eyes widened in fear, and his mouth opens and closees a few times without any sound coming out.

“What’s wrong with you, shrimp?” The furious soldier advances on the boy slowly. “Forgotten whose side you’re on, have you?”

Ned backed away nervously, his hands rising in a pleading gesture.

“C-captain Max said…”

“Captain Max said,” mimics the soldier. “Take a look around you, shrimp: Captain Max isn’t here.”

He makes a lunge for the boy, catching him by the collar, but Ned manages to twist away. He skids across the floor to stand beside Tom, his retreat only making the two soldiers angrier. With a deft flick of his wrist, the second soldier throws his knife and Ned closes his eyes, bracing himself for the pain of impact.

The moments pass and the boy prises one eye open.

Tom’s arm is stretched out in front of him, on a level with Ned’s throat. The knife is buried deep in his forearm, blood beginning to ooze from wound to drip on the floor. The room is silent, Ned’s horrified gaze transfers from the gruesome sight of the blade protruding from Tom’s arm, to Tom’s white face and icy expression. He coldly appraises the men before him, and the two soldiers expressions fill with horror and fear.

On the plus side I learnt a lot (or so I hope) and two years later ‘Broken City’ was finished. Due to the support I have received from readers I have just finished the next book in the Broken City series, Broken Truce!

I have another book, ‘The Promise’, which is set in Saxon England is the beginning of a series. I’ve just begun to edit the next book and I’m really looking forward to releasing it.
My third series is called The Chronicles of Discord. The first book, ‘Fracture’, is set in the distant future and tells the story of Astra, a young woman with a very big secret.

I have just finished the second book in the series and it’s currently awaiting editing.
I really hope you enjoy reading my books as much as I enjoy writing them.

I love reading and have a kindle: I read almost anything with adventure and romance in it! I also like to cook and wear impractical high heels!!! And as you might have noticed I have a horrible addiction to exclamation marks!!!

I am an “Indie” adult contemporary romance author. I am a wife and a stay at home mom. I have been married to my wonderful husband since 1996. I love being a stay at home mom to our two teenage boys. We have a handful of pets, a dog named Lucy (who is in my books), a guinea pig named Flufy, (my son spells her name that way) and a cat named meow-meow, who adopted us many years ago and has never left.

I never liked reading as a kid and I only started reading romance novels in the past few years. Soon I couldn’t get enough of them. My Kindle and I are inseparable now. A thought occurred to me in December of 2012 that maybe I could write a romance novel. So I went to work with the encouragement of my husband and my sister-in-law. It didn’t take long to figure out that I really enjoyed writing.

I entered my book in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Contest in January of 2013. Needless to say my three hundred word pitch didn’t even make it through the first round. My book never even got read. So now what do you do with a 50,000+ word book? With more encouragement by my wonderful family I decided to self- publish it. So here I am today a self- published author. It has been a lot of hard work but I wouldn’t change a single thing.

It has not been an easy road and there has been a lot of self- doubt, but I stuck with it and I wouldn’t change a thing. I’ve been blessed to have been put in contact with some amazing people that have supported and encouraged me every step of the way.

 Excerpt

Arms in the air, hips swaying, I lost myself in the sounds of 112’s, “Peaches and Cream.” Matt moved up behind me, pulling me back against his hard chest, grinding his hips into mine. His hands glided teasingly down my arms and sides, causing a slow burn in my belly. His hand moved my hair over my shoulder so his lips could skim along the side of my neck, sending shivers down my spine.

Feeling like I was being watched, my eyes opened and looked directly into the blazing, heated gaze of Grant Morgan. I had made myself forget that he was here, but apparently he hadn’t forgotten I was. He sat forward in his booth, his one arm propped on his leg – watching me. He was the master of his domain and of his body. You could tell he was at ease with himself and knew how to command his body. He had a powerful aura now that I was closer to him. And if I wasn’t mistaken, his jaw seemed to tick when Matt ran his hands intimately down my thighs as he danced behind me.

From that moment forward, I danced for Grant. It was beyond my control. My imagination went wild with thoughts of him behind me, moving me sensually against him. Matt or not, I only wanted him to watch me. Only wanted him to touch me. Only wanted him to want me. It was dangerous. It was reckless. It was everything I wasn’t.

Grant watched me the whole time. Even when waitresses brought him what looked like whiskey or scotch. Even when Nik came back to talk with him. It was a rare occasion for me to look his way and not see his eyes on me. The heated look in them made my skin tingle and my panties grow wet with desire. I might as well have been naked, for the way his eyes stripped me bare.

At one point, I caught him subtly adjusting himself. When he did that, I closed my eyes, overcome with a wave of need. I ran my hands over my breasts and down my torso, further stimulating myself. I could imagine my hands down his pants, feeling his hardness beneath my palm as I squeezed it and made him hiss with pleasure. And when my hands skirted farther down my body, I imagined it was his, seeking to give me the same pleasure that I was giving him.

And that was how I spent the rest of the night. Seductively beckoning Grant to join me. Secretly wishing he would answer my unspoken call. When a man I didn’t know came up and pulled him away, I watched him leave the club and felt an odd sense of loss blanket me. What was happening to me?

She meets Paden Winters and is drawn to him despite his moodiness and ill temper.  As she gets to know him, she realizes they are both dealing with issues of healing and concealing pain.  Only Paden deals with it by cutting himself for sexual satisfaction.

Can a woman who has an abnormal fear of blood and a man who cuts himself ever find happiness?  Or are some pains too deep to overcome?

excerpt 2 “I wanted to let you know,” he whispered, “that it’s not you. I’m still not right, Thea. Something is dark and hateful inside, and it makes me do hurtful things. I just want you to know that I…care about you, but I’m not a very nice person.” His face was turned away from her, his jaw locked in place, as if afraid he’d say something more. He looked so lost to her, so defeated that it broke her heart. Without thinking, she reached up to grab his face and bring it back to hers. She stood on tiptoe to make sure he saw her as she spoke. “I’m not scared of you, Paden,” she whispered. “Whatever darkness is inside you doesn’t scare me.” She kissed him on the lips, softly, once and then twice, pressing her mouth against the seam of his. Then she rubbed her cheek against his, and his composure broke. His arms came around her and he pulled her into him, almost crushing her as he found her lips with his. She opened for him, and his tongue swept in, allowing him to take from her whatever he needed. His kiss was possessive, dominant yet tender, a heady combination that sent her senses spinning. She slipped her arms around him, hugging his waist, feeling the strength rippling through him, and a little moan escaped her throat. Immediately, he swept her up into his arms, not breaking the contact with his mouth. He carried her, though she was hardly aware of where they went. She was half conscious to going up to his loft, where the only light came from the glow of the fireplace below. He laid her in the middle of his bed, falling upon her, cradled between her legs. His hands roved over her body, not giving her a chance to protest even if she wanted to. But she didn’t. He unzipped her pants and his hand slipped inside, under her panties, to find the slickness of her pussy. One finger slid in and she moaned, lifting her hips to help him ease in further. His thumb rubbed her clit, teasing the nub while another finger also pushed in. In and out he rubbed, up and down. Her body tightened, and she panted, her hips bucking against the fingers driving her crazy. Then he pulled back, finally breaking his kiss to trail over her cheek, down her chin to her neck. His hand left her slit. She moaned in protest and shifted her hips higher, pressing against his hardness. But he tugged at her shirt, hurrying to unbutton it to reveal her thermal undershirt. For the next few moments it was all about getting her naked. Once she lay before him, exposed, he took a moment to stare at her while running a hand over her skin, over her breasts, teasing the nipples to pucker. Thea shifted restlessly, arching her back to get him to touch her more. His fingers trailed down, over the concave contour of her belly, into the red curls hiding her femininity. He shifted lower, and his fingers parted her folds as his mouth settled on her aching clit. She arched with a screech of pleasure, bucking hard against his mouth. He sucked her deep, his tongue probing into her opening and licking it. Her hands clutched uselessly at his hair, either urging him on or trying to make him leave, she wasn’t sure. She wanted more, she wanted to feel all of him but wasn’t quite sure what to ask for. He seemed to know, however, and moved off her. She reached for him. She may not have known exactly what she was reaching for, but she knew she didn’t want him to go away. He moved, his clothing shifting off, his skin hot against her touch. She touched his chest, his hips. “Do you have a condom?” she whispered. He blinked, confused. “I have one,” she told him. “I thought, you know, just in case.” She reached for her jeans and took out the little foil from her pocket. She heard the tearing of a wrapper, and then he was lifting her hips, settling them over his shoulders. He rose up between her legs, holding firm to her thighs. In one thrust, he entered her.

review by sue 2

The Snow Princess is the first in a set of books that can also be stand alone. I enjoyed the blurb and loved how the cover resembled the characters perfectly. The author picked very distinctive names that has to do with Greek mythology (I am a fanatic), and that is part of the reason I had to pick this book up. Panthea decided to travel via bride by mail all the way to Alaska (where the males to females are outnumbered) to meet her future husband but after meeting him they realize that maybe they did not have anything in common, she decides to stay longer. This character had so many things happen to her in the last year that would break anybody down and shy away from others, including wanting to start over. However, when she meets Paden they both discover an attraction, who is sexy but has his own demons. Paden’s demon was one that I wouldn’t wish on anyone but it does happen unfortunately and he has learned to deal with it the best way possible.  The real question is can these two help each other with their demons that are haunting them. This story was very meaningful because it included things that people deal with everyday, but the author took it and overcame the sadness and made it into a beautiful love story that is sexy at the same time. The scenes in these are definitely one that will keep you glued to the book until the very end. I enjoyed  reading the story about Panthea and Paden, but you will have to find out if they were able to overcome their demons!

Genre-Contemporary Erotic Romance

blurb 2

Caleb Tasker lost his wife to cancer but it took him a long time to put her memory to rest.  Deciding he needs a vacation, he accepts the gracious invitation of living in his friend’s Malibu home for an over due holiday.

Delilah Ward grew up in rural Mississippi and ran away when she was sixteen, moving to Los Angeles with thoughts of being anything but the person she was born to be.  But reality settled in quickly and the bright lights of Hollywood soon faded into the dark abyss of dancing on a darkened platform.

Caleb is used to love being easy and Delilah is used to fighting against everything.  They have nothing in common except a wildfire attraction that won’t let go of them.  But when tough choices need to be made, will they both be able to be honest to what they really excerpt 2

“Baby, you’ve gotta stop looking at me like that,” he told her in a strangulated tone. She licked her lips, unable to break eye contact. He groaned and left the kitchen, walking toward her with determined strides. He looked like a man on a mission, a hunter who’d found his prey, and excitement flooded through her. Her pussy flooded, soaking her panties, and need puckered her nipples into hard buds. As soon as he drew close enough, he reached for her. His grip was firm but not bruising and she stared up at him with wide eyes. His body was hard, firm, and she felt his cock pressing hot and heavy against her. “You’re so beautiful,” Caleb said with a ragged breath. “I’m so hard for you, Delilah, and if I don’t kiss you right now I think I might self combust.” “Yes, Caleb,” she moaned just as his head swooped down and his lips claimed hers. She melted. He took a small nip on her upper lip before trailing smaller kisses across her bottom, licking each corner to coax her mouth open. As soon as she granted him access, Caleb slipped his tongue inside. There wasn’t any softness in the kiss at all. He possessed her completely, with a wildness that took her by surprise. As her tongue joined with his in exploring and tasting, her knees went weak. Caleb’s hands slipped down to grab her around her waist and settle her more firmly between his thighs. She could feel his rigid cock pulsing through their clothes and all she wanted to do was explore his impressive girth. Slowly, his hands began to slide up, pushing her shirt up to reveal her flat tummy. His thumb brushed over her smooth skin and she shivered. She broke the kiss to moan, allowing Caleb to rain small kisses over her cheek and down her neck. “Caleb,” she managed to gasp. “I want you,” he whispered in her ear, taking a nip at her earlobe. “I want to take you into my bed and worship your body, lick every inch of you, have you ride me until we’re both too weak to walk. Jesus, Delilah, I’m want you so fucking much, baby.” “Caleb, stop,” she whispered. “Please. We need to stop.” It was like a bucket of cold water had been thrown on him. He stiffened in her arms and then the next second he was walking away from her, back toward the kitchen, hunched like a wounded bear. She was left panting, disoriented, and strangely bereft. “I, ah, I need to go,” she told him, walking toward the door that led to the mud room. As she passed by him, he grabbed her arm. “Don’t go,” he murmured. She swallowed. She was so tempted, and because of that, she needed to get away now. “I have to go.” His eyes were burning with arousal. Her body responded. “I want to see you again.” “Caleb—” “Please, Delilah. I have to see you again.” She caved. She wanted to see him again, too. “Give me your phone.” He slipped it out of his pocket and handed it to her. She quickly programmed her phone number into it before setting it back upon the island counter top. She wanted to kiss him again. So very badly. But instead she hurried out, closing the door behind her.

Another beautiful cover and since I had read the first one of course I had to know what happened to Caleb. After leaving Alaska to go on a vacation and get away from the memories of his wife that he lost, Caleb goes to Panthea’s home to stay for a week. Caleb has a heart of gold, and truly still is a gentlemen for my heart. So when he meets Delilah, who is currently working on staff, at an event by accident because a new friend brought him she doesn’t know if he is just like every other guy she has met or if he is really one of the few gentlemen still around. Of course leave it to movie star Jake Coolidge to assume the worst of her because of her profession and Caleb late nights of borrowing the car! I loved this story because Caleb didn’t care what Delilah did but saw her for the person she is inside. This story I think was my favorite because not only the characters but because the sensuality and the way Caleb tries to win Delilah over. The author did an amazing job with this novel sexy scenes, sadness that needs healing.

Genre- Contemporary Erotic Romance

blurb 2

Jake Coolidge is Hollywood’s hot new star.  Growing up in Los Angeles among the film sets his father worked on, Jake knows fame is fickle so he lives life to the fullest.  He never has to search far for a pretty face with an amazing body to fill his bed, and he never, ever, promises fidelity.

Norah Scaritt has lived her whole life in a fantasy world.  Knowing she would never be the girl to wear a bikini or short shorts, she’s come to accept that she has curves even though she secretly wishes she was one of the slim, beautiful models that decorates Jake’s arm.

She’s written a movie script that she knows Jake will be perfect for, but she’s ill prepared for the magnetic attraction she feels for him.  As she tries to form a professional bond with him, his hot and cold attitude breaks her heart one too many times.  Can Jake save a love that he denied before he’s lost the only person that ever really mattered?

excerpt 2 If she was going to have another night with him, she was going to give him a night he’d not soon forget. She might not have much experience, but she read romances, and she had a helluva imagination. When they got to his room, Jake pulled her into his arms and kissed her. She felt his hard cock pressed against her stomach. This time, she wanted to take things slow and learn about Jake, what he liked and what drove him crazy. She pulled back slightly to meld their lips gently, starting the kiss out slowly to let the magic build. Their tongues met, danced, twining together. Norah’s knuckles glided over Jake’s stomach and she felt the muscles contract against the ticklish caress. She found the zipper to his jeans and lowered it. She broke the kiss and sank to her knees, working his pants over his hips. The mental image of the blonde giving him a blow job flashed through her mind and all she wanted to do was do a better job. She wanted to make sure Jake Coolidge didn’t forget her. Slowly, her hands slid inside the pants and under the elastic band of his underwear to grab the firm globes of his ass. She explored for a moment, tracing over the firm, smooth skin and even dipped into the crack to trace the seam until she skimmed his balls. Jake groaned and wiggled his hips a little impatiently. Norah only smiled. She pushed his clothing down, carefully freeing his long, thick cock. The blood-engorged member stood proud from a dusting of dark curls. It twitched as if knowing that it was being admired, bobbing slightly above a full sac. She wanted to suck it into her mouth but knew if she did that now, her little seduction would lose its memorable quality. So she continued teasing. Instead, she licked his balls and caressed them, feeling each individual weight. Jake moaned and buried his hands in her hair. Norah ran a finger over the tip of his cock, catching the moisture leaking from it and using it to coat the head. She rubbed it over and over, back and forth, as her mouth kissed the hot skin at the base of the shaft then moved up, taking her sweet time to enjoy it. The skin on the head was smooth but swollen as pre-cum leaked steadily from the tip. Norah sucked it into her mouth, using the flat top of her tongue to massage up and down. Jake made breathy little noises of need and they just about drove her crazy. Norah rubbed the bulging vein that disappeared under the mushroom head where she lapped up the drops of white fluid that dripped from the hole. She loved Jake’s salty essence on his tongue. He moaned and bucked his hip as if demanding attention. Norah slipped her mouth around the head, tracing each curve with her tongue, easing her mouth over then down, going slowly. Her right hand encircled the base while her left hand rested on Jake’s hip to control the thrusts. Norah began the blow job with short, shallow thrusts. Each time, however, she allowed Jake’s cock to go further, deeper, letting her throat muscles relax. In a short time she was deep throating him, making him moan and shake with pleasure. Little by little, Norah increased the tempo, speeding up, her right hand moving to Jake’s sac and squeezing it, playing with it, rolling the balls through the thin skin. Jake gave a heavy gasp, his hips twitching under the restraint he was holding on to. “God! Norah!” He grunted. “You’re amazing, sweetheart.” With obvious reluctance, he pulled back to plop out of her mouth. She looked up at him through her lashes, knowing her lips glistened with saliva. “I don’t want to come in your mouth,” he told her. “I want to be buried in your tight little pussy when I do.” The dirty words made her shiver with desire. He held his hand out to her and helped her stand in front of him, only then removing the rest of his clothes before stripping her bare. He kissed her again, reaching out to bring her body flush against his. She felt every inch of his strength, through the corded muscles on his arms and down his long legs. Her body was different, of course, soft to his hardness, and she tried to push from her mind that she wasn’t the perfect goddess he was used to. She was glad the room was dark. She didn’t think she’d be able to stand in front of him naked with lights on. He guided her backward, until the back of her knees hit the bed and she sat down, breaking the kiss. Then it was his time to go to his knees. He gently pushed her back until she lay down and he pulled her hips forward, giving him complete access between her thighs. She was already wet for him and she heard his appreciative growl just before he slipped one finger into her snug channel and latched on to her clit with his mouth. He began a tender assault on her senses as she gasped and arched her back. And when his finger found her G-spot the world burst into a kaleidoscope of colors. He wasted no time finding a condom and slipping it on. He flipped her over and raised her ass in the air to bury himself completely inside her. “Jesus, you’re tight,” he muttered, holding still inside her for a moment. “Please, Jake,” she begged. “Fuck me.” “Oh, sweetheart, I will,” he promised, kissing the back of her neck. “This sweet pussy is mine.” He withdrew until the tip of his cock was barely inside, and then he thrust forward sharply. She moaned and pushed back, wanting more. “Say it,” he ordered. “Say that this pussy is mine.” “Yes!” she cried. “All yours!”

Jake Coolidge is truly the playboy figure and thinks that fame is all that matters and women should be for fun. Of course if you had to deal with what he has to and try to overcome his fathers mistakes then you would probably think the same.  Norah’s heart is set on becoming a screen writer and knows that Jake will be the perfect person to star in it, so when her cousin Jill who works with him gives him the screen to read over. Do you believe in love at first sight! Jake never has, until seeing Norah or is he still the same? This novel was definitely more of a struggle with love because of everyone knew how Jake was, so I really enjoyed seeing him struggle with Norah, of course he also knew Jill would probably kill him if he hurt her. Of course, Jake wasn’t the only one that got close to Norah and wanted to get to know her better, who do you think won her heart? The author did an amazing job with this novel especially with the fame, sexy scenes, sadness that needs healing.

about the author 2

Beth D Carter

I like writing about the very ordinary girl thrust into extraordinary circumstances, so my heroines will probably never be lawyers, doctors or corporate highrollers.  I try to write characters who aren’t cookie cutters and push myself to write complicated situations that I have no idea how to resolve, forcing me to think outside the box.  I love writing characters who are real, complex and full of flaws, heroes and heroines who find redemption through love.

I’ve been pretty fortunate in life to experience some amazing things.  I’ve lived in France, traveled throughout Europe, Australia and New Zealand.  I am a mom to an amazing little boy.  I live in Los Angeles, surrounded by friends and family.  I hate washing dishes but I love cooking. I hate washing clothes but I love wearing them. Writing my bio is difficult because I never know what to say so I hope you like this one.  My favorite color is red but I look best in black (it’s slimming).  I hate people who don’t pick up their dog’s crap in public places, people who don’t use turn signals, and I really hate people who are rude and condescending. I especially hate discrimination in all and every form.  And although I love holding a book in my hand, I absolutely adore my ereader, whom I’ve named Ruby.  I love to hear from readers so I’ve made it really easy to find me on Twitter: @BethDCarter  or
