Smart, Sexy, and Secretive ~ Review!!

Couple romancing together

This is book 2 in The Reed Brothers Series and I had been looking forward to this book and was not let down. An awesome conclusion to Logan and Emily’s breath-taking love story. I fell in love with Logan at the very beginning. He will capture your heart.
Their story continues when Emily returns to New York with her parents. She is afraid with the time that has passed Logan may have moved on without her. She gave up everything when she went back home so that her father would pay for Matt’s (Logan’s brother) cancer treatment. Her father is disapproving, controlling  and has no faith in her because of her dyslexia. Emily wants nothing more than to gain his approval but not at the risk of her true love that he absolutely does not approve off.  Logan is back in school and trying to better himself. He must now prove to her father that he is more than worthy of Emily’s love. What he lacks in money, he makes up in family. He may be deaf but he is a smart, sexy tattooed bad boy and he may have some competition with Emily’s ex in town. Their chemistry just sizzles off the pages and will leave you wanting more!  I can’t wait to read the other Reed brother’s stories!

Emily

I’m back in New York, ready to start my brand new life with Logan. Things are still up in the air between us, and it has been three months since I’ve even talked to him. But there’s one thing I’m certain of — I can’t live without him.

Logan

I need her like I need air. But now she’s back, and her dad and her ex-boyfriend are conspiring to keep us apart. We can do this, though. Can’t we? We can make this work? We have to, because I can’t imagine my life without her.

This book does contain a sexy and a sexy-lite version of the same book. (I had already written the sexy lite version for my son, so I included it.) But don’t worry — you are not charged for that version in any way. I promise. 🙂

mmy Falkner lives on a farm in a lovely, sprawling little town in rural NC with her beekeeper husband and a house full of boys, a few dogs, and a cat or two (or five – who has time to count?). As half of the Lydia Dare team, she has co-written ten books, including the Westfield Wolves series and the Gentlemen Vampyre series. A huge fan of Regency England, she often wonders what other kinds of magical, mythical and strange creatures might live and interact within the ton. Exploring the theory that the fae can walk between Regency England and their own land, Tammy spends as much time as possible with the lords and ladies of society, horse-drawn carriages, and elegant balls. Now add to that some faeries, a little murder, a bit of mayhem, and a troublesome garden gnome, and you have her exciting new series. She hopes you enjoys her world as much as she does.

With a blur, she flicked her wrists, and the blade met its target, allowing another smear of red to join the darkened, sticky blood pouring over her fingers and embedding itself in the cracked lines in her hands. The warrior fell, never to fight again. He hadn’t had even a chance to reciprocate. She listened for more, but nothing else echoed across the vast trunks of trees with their branches softly swaying in the breeze, stretching across the horizon like welcoming arms.
Wiping her sword on the dirty clothes covering one of the downed Unseelie she had bested, she frowned, noting their pale skin and blackened eyes. A flash of memory stumped her, and a vision of the malicious Lady Blythe echoed in her mind. The woman’s inhuman screech resonated like a phantom, chastising her as her blackened insect eyes stared her down from a time long ago. Lady Blythe, evil Queen of the Dryads and ally to the Unseelie Queen Aveta, was long dead and only lived in a sliver of Shade’s “Are there any more?” Nautilus bounded from behind her, his long, dark dreadlocks swinging over his shoulders as he halted. Dylan flanked her to the right, covered in equal amounts of dirt and blood. His black hair was dusted from a struggle, and dried leaves stuck to his armor as his gleaming, steel-colored eyes scanned the horizon, eager for more-challenging foes.
“No, that’s the last of them for now,” she answered. She pulled a rag from her pack and wiped her hands as best she could. An odd, chilled feeling washed over her as she watched the rag turn colors from the gore and blood. How long ago had she been a normal teenager, struggling with grades, homework and meddling voices echoing in her head? Now… well, things were vastly different. She was a queen of an entire Faerie realm, engaged to a handsome Teleen warrior, and didn’t have any qualms about killing No one moved, making her even more nervous. The merfolk guards flicked their tales to hover, weapons pointed toward them as they held their ground. Nautilus responded with the same resonating sound.
It was unsettling, feeling the water echo around her, but it didn’t hurt her ears any more. She focused her eyes on the one merman who was obviously their leader. His scales shone more crystalline, and his arms were plastered with an array of platinum arm bands which glinted as he moved, pointing at them.
He looked quite intent on yelling at them, his lips moving in strange, haunting calls with echoing clicks, reminding her of dolphin speak. She hoped he wouldn’t be using that long, sharp and dangerous-looking triton on them. From the sound of his voice, it wasn’t looking good for them.

I am not going to talk in the third person. It feels weird.
I am a Bestselling author of Paranormal Romance, Post Apocalyptic, Contemporary, Romance, and Fantasy novels. I write a lot of books and jump Genres all the time. Mostly because I think I have Writers ADD, I like to call it WADD. It might be a real thing.
I write YA some of the time but mostly New Adult, my books have sexual content (Heck yes) and Swearing. You have been warned. Now enjoy!
I have a beagle named Buster, a husband who I force to read everything I write and two girls who want so badly to be a character in my books. And not in that order.
I am mid thirties so be prepared for the chick lit novel this year. I am calling it my Ode to my Midlife Crisis. I’m kidding. It’s actually called The Single Lady Spy Series and it is an adult romantic-thriller series. The first book, The End of Me is due out April of 2013. It is a sexy and fresh series with the lightest touch of erotic naughtiness.
I have been writing since I was old enough to lie. So for some time. If you’re wondering about the hat, it’s my ‘Hey I’m Canadian Toque’

I have often been asked “Why Xosha” and now that the story is finally ready to be told, I figured it’s time to answer that question.. I have been writing for as long as I can remember. The first thing I ever wrote was a poem called “Valentine Bee” which was about one of my favorite small toys. I was either four or five when I wrote it and remember every word to it nearly thirty years later. Around that time I also wrote a Pagan Children’s Prayer because I was so scared to sleep in my room so I would say my little handwritten prayer and hoped the gods heard it. The first time I saw Xosha I was six years old. It was the backdrop for the most vivid and real dreams I have ever had. I had never read about anything that looked like Xosha before, and since I was not allowed to watch anything except pbs growing up, I most certainly never saw anything like it before. I remember waking up with a huge smile on my face and grabbing my dream journal and writing down every minute detail I could remember of that place I wished I lived in. Xosha refused to leave me. As I got older, Xosha became a frequent theme in my dreams. I found that there, I could go anywhere I wanted with no problem. My first “flying” dream happened when I was seven. Until then, the only exploring of this wondrous dream world was what would later be named Caprae. When I was eight, I met Macayla who would later become detrimental part to Xosha’s history. She was who taught me to fly. As we flew over this amazing landscape, she gave me the names of all the places we saw. When I woke up I added those in my dream journal too. Macayla became my teacher when I slept, every night for years I was taught more and more about Xosha. In the summer of 1988, Macayla told me to write the story. I knew this was a hard task, I was only seven and while my reading skills were top notch, my writing was a whole other ballgame. She wouldn’t take “no” or “I can’t” for an answer. In the summer, I spent a lot of time at my grandparents’ house. I told my grandmother about the dream and she immediately sent my grandfather out to buy me a notebook. In her eyes, this was the perfect way to practice my writing. Thus the Rise of Xosha was born. By the time I was twelve, the entire series was handwritten, though when I looked it over, it seemed something was missing, and that’s when the rewrites began to happen. I was missing something and I had no idea what it was. Over the course of the next twenty years I wrote and rewrote the story. I moved around a lot once my late teen years hit and the manuscript got lost more than once. Though the story stayed in my head refusing to leave. Finally settling where I am now, I took out what I had left of the original, the forty page work that was to be the prologue for the start of the series. With the help of memories and dreams, I extended that on msword and made it a short history lesson in the story. Even at thirty two, I still dream of Xosha and still talk to Macayla and the others I have met over the years there. When I wake now, it’s with a heavy heart since obviously I can never reallysee Xosha, it will forever be a place in my dreams that pulls at my heart strings. I welcome you into my little sanctuary. I hope despite all the troubles and turmoil you found there that you will see what I have seen for the last twenty five years almost every night in my dreams. I hope you fall in love with Xosha just like I did…

excerpt 2

Obsidian’s reverie was cut short as she realized her own grave error. “Pyre watch out!” She yelled. Pyre snapped his head in the direction of Obsidian’s frantic yell, but indeed he had been too late. A flurry of white feathers slammed into his right flank sending him spiraling out of the sky. His talons ripped into the side of the feathered beast, which returned the gesture in kind as their forms, a ball of red scale and white feather continued their less than graceful dive. “This ends now dragon!” the feathered one hissed in a feminine voice as her talons dug into Pyre’s flank. Pyre growled low in his throat as he finally shook the Anjyl off. “Why are you doing this?! Your kind and mine are practically cousins. Why turn on us like this?” A laugh akin to the tinkling of bells left the feathered dragon, her gray depths burned into the dragon’s with malice. “Your kind is thorn in our sides. We cannot fully control the ‘God’ fearing creatures with you around.” Pyre had heard enough, he flew at the Anjyl and gripped her left wing in with his front taloned paws, his back ones came to land on the feathered female’s underside where his talons dug deeply in. His back legs gave a sharp kick outward as his front legs pulled the wing toward his own body. The Anjyl’s eyes widened. Her sleek feathered head shook vigorously back and forth causing the thick standalone whiskers on either side of her muzzle to dance in the wind. Then, she gave out of a blood curdling screech of pain as the sound of popping bone, tissue, and feathered flesh broke through the howl of the rushing wind. A smirk crossed Pyre’s maw as he released the now useless wing. “Your kind will never be better than us Anjyl. If you survive, tell your Oni we will not fall prey to you… Hunt us again and it will be the Anjyl’s that become the prey!” He kicked out once more letting his wings unfurl to catch the upward current of the wind. His talons mucked with feathers, flesh, and gore, he gave a shrug knowing he had wasted his breath. Even as he watched, his wings giving the occasional flap to keep himself aloft, The Anjyl was falling. When she hit the water head first and did not resurface he knew it had been an wasted effort. Above him, where the rest of the fighting sectors of the horde were, he heard growls and the clash of talons. Angling himself he began his ascent back to his brother’s side, dodging the many breaths of acid, and the falling of Anjyls. “I’m glad you’re okay Pyre.” Oceanus grunted as Pyre came up beside him. Pyre latched his maw on the neck of the large Anjyl male that was trying very much in vain to knock Oceanus from the sky. “I told you I can take care of myself.” Was the muffled reply as the male went limp in Pyre’s jaw. Pyre let the Anjyl drop to join his kin in the bottom of the ocean. Pyre’s amber depths noted the purple hue to the once blue water and had to wonder to himself if it would ever return to normal after this fight. As the last Anjyl fell to its final resting place, Oceanus let out a strong bellow. The children, Rose, and the others lifted from the small island to rejoin the ranks of the horde. Oceanus knew the browns were a bit miffed at being left out of the fight, He also knew that Rose’s Xosha required every brown dragon there to be found. “We no longer have time and distance on our side. I’m sure that horde were not the only ones. Their leader was not among their numbers. We must make haste to our new home now. We cannot afford another battle. Many of you are injured now and the will to carry on is diminished, but you must continue forward! We all seek the freedom and peace of Rose’s Xosha, we must stay together to achieve it!” Oceanus’ voice was strong, though as he looked over his small band of dragons his heart grew heavy. They had lost at least three in that fight., they could not afford to lose any more.

 Irreplaceable by Angela Graham
Genre: Contemporary Romance/New Adult

Synopsis:

It wasn’t his fault she lay broken and battered. He wasn’t responsible for the injuries covering her bruised body.
Her heart, however, told a different story. She endured the pain of its jagged edges as it shattered against her chest, ripping through the hope she once held. Her spirit was broken, and only one man was to blame for that.
Cassandra Clarke had known better than to trust her all to a man like Logan West. She’d thought he was different—a better man than he’d portrayed to others. A man worth risking it all for.
But she was wrong, and would never make that mistake again.
What happens when you question everything you longed to believe—deny all emotions you still hold for a man unworthy of them?
Faced with Logan’s persistence, Cassandra must find the strength to keep her guard up or risk falling again for the one man her body feels…is irreplaceable.

Excerpt:
The walls surrounding my heart began to shudder and shake, and it took everything I had to keep it hidden.
“Mm-hmm,” I replied, my lips clamped together tightly.
His pained eyes searched mine. “You have to give me something to hold onto, sweetheart…a reason to keep fighting when you repeatedly push me away.”
I’m here! I wanted to shout out to the world. Wait for me, please, but I stood silent, terrified. How had I become so weak? Seeing him with that woman had pushed me over the edge. He’d want more than I could ever give him, so it was for the best if he walked away. Better to get out now before it was too late.

He nodded after a long, silent pause.

I hated him for bringing me so low, for creating a storm of brewing rage deep in my soul. I hated myself for wanting to take him in my arms and kiss him until I forgot. I had to fight through it to find a way to get him off my porch.

Finally, I opened my mouth and swallowed the rough lump that had formed, speaking in a soft voice. “I was about to take a shower, and though you seem to think that’s our new thing, I prefer to do it alone. Goodbye.”

Meet the Author…

I am happily married to my husband of five years, have three wonderful children and a beautiful feline companion that keeps me company during late night writing binges.
My love of reading has been life long but it was in early 2012 when I was inspired to finally put pen to paper and write my first story. Since then I haven’t been able to stop, fueled purely by my passion to write a story and create characters that readers will enjoy.
New Adult romances are my go to books to read as well as to write. They are young, fresh and full of hope. What’s not to love!
“Just don’t give up trying to do what you really want to do. Where there is love and inspiration, I don’t think you can go wrong.”

HollywoodHomecoming_v4-front

Make-up artist to the stars. The favorite aunt. Dance teacher. Baby sister. Talented musician and song-writer.

Single.

Why did that word rank above the rest? Helen loved her family and understood they wanted her to have the real love they’d all found. It’s just that she’d found her someone special and learned to live without him. She’d been too young for the quirky, idealistic doctor-off to save the world-to notice. And, really, if she had it her way, he’d never know how she’d felt. Now, he was one of her best friends, a pen pal, losing him would be too much.

Seeing him at their parents wedding, Helen realizes the horrible truth: she still loves Joseph… which wouldn’t be so bad if she wasn’t in the situation she was in.

But she was. And her secret will change everything.

Will it destroy hope for a Hollywood happy ending too?

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first time I have read anything from this author and after reading Hollywood Homecoming I will definitely have to go read the other books in this series. I loved the look of the cover and also the description of the book, so I had to say yes when asked to review this book.

This story follows Helen and how she has felt about Joseph. Helen has always had a crush on Joseph throughout her teenage years and now he has become a Doctor, they have kept in touch through correspondence because he has been practicing in a different country. When their parents decide to meet and Joseph and Helen meet again her feelings start to be harder to keep showing as just a “friendship” type; little did she know that he has had feelings for her too. Both have kept secrets do you think that their feelings will overcome their secrets?

The author has provided the readers with a well-balanced characters mixed with romance and including a possibility at a happily ever after type ending.  Ms. Sasha Summers writing keeps you wanting to keep reading all the way into the early morning (I know I did) and her characters are very unique in their own ways. I loved Helen, she was strong and honest for everyone but still had the sarcasm that mad you laugh.  Joseph is a handsome, smart, and has a huge heart. Many series you tend to have to read from book one and forward or you become lost, I felt that with this series you are able to read it separately or in order and with what I have seen in this book I will be getting the other two being in my future to read, I would recommend these books to everyone especially if you love sweet romances with a touch of humor.

about the author 2

Sasha Summers Author Photo
Sasha is part gypsy. Born June 9, 1974, stories have always played an important role in her life. Her passions have always been storytelling, Hollywood, history, and travel. It’s no surprise that her books include a little of each. Her first play, ‘Greek Gods and Goddesses’ was written for her Girl Scout troupe. She’s been writing ever since. She loves getting lost in the worlds and characters she creates; even if she frequently forgets to run the dishwasher or wash socks when she’s doing so. Luckily, her four brilliant children and hero-inspiring hubby are super understanding and supportive.
